We at Everything Underground are committed to pumping that underground flavor, bringing you the vibe from the street. This vibe can be found among a select minority of folk: the truly cool set. No pretense. No frontin'. Just cool..... I believe that vibe exists also in the hearts and souls of certain individuals that do massive work behind the scenes.

This series will focus on promoting some of our city's hottest on-the-air and background personalities that we feel are representing the cause.

Ms. Yolanda Neely has been holding it down in Cashville for some time now. You can catch Ms. Neely doing her thang on tha' daily: banging that old school flavor in ya ear at WQQK. That's 92.1 on your FM dial.........................

Q: For those that don't know, tell us a little about where you're

         from and where you're headed.

A: I was raised in New York [Hollis Queens], Moms sold the house my first year

of College, move us to Miami, were I started radio. After 13 years doing the

"Miami Thing" I moved to “the Atl” to pursue a career in the Music business ..

Needed a gig, so I went back to work in radio, which lead me to Nashville.. I'm

         headed were God Takes me!!!

Q: Did you try to pursue a career in music while you were still in New York?

A: I did. I tried radio as a means of getting to where I really wanted to be: an

A&R rep with a record label. That’s been a dream of mine for a long time. It

       still is......

Q: How did you decide to become a DJ?

A: Well, my friends would always tell me that I had a nice voice and that I should

try to make it in radio. Then, a friend of mine passed and I decided to pursue

my dreams. I’ve worked as a DJ for 17 years now.

Very cool…….        If I have learned anything from life, it’s that our time on

Earth can be shorter than we think so it’s always best to try to enjoy every

second that God gives us…….shoot for the stars, baby!!!

Q: Out of all the "cheese music" and hot tracks that are

currently filling the radio, who do you listen to?

A: I listen to Kem...... great lyrics... And lots of gospel for my motivational portion

        of my show..

Q: Cool. What’s up with Kem?

A: He has like an Al Jarreau appeal in the Neo-Soul genre. His CD was released

        earlier this year.

Q: True. True. Who are some of your favorite Gospel artists?

A: I like Smokey Norful and Pastor Donnie McClurkin. Yolanda Adams is great.

Oh, and I can’t forget about BeBe and CeCe Winans.

No doubt….BeBe and CeCe took contemporary Gospel to a new level in our generation.

Q: Are you active in the local music scene?

A: Yes, I am... I still consult Kriz Kang. (for the lowdown on the local happenings)

Q: Are you able to influence any well-known artists to do shows

for the 'ville?

A: I think that money is the influence...

 Right on.........Money talks....you know the rest.. :-}

Q: Okay. I've got to ask you about the whole Kobe situation. See, I

feel like my boy is being set-up. However, he did place himself

in this situation, though. Adultery is always bad news,

especially if you are a black male public figure. Haters are

always on the prowl, looking for an opportunity to bring down

the house. So, these cats with all this loot have to be very

careful about everything they do and say, right?

A: I have to agree with you on that.. Sometimes we make bad choices... Hopefully

        he can learn from this..

Q: Well, on to more positive things..... I feel you with the Krystal's

spots. Do you get many ad opportunities?

A: I've been blessed to have these agencies feel I can help there product sell...

Hopefully, one day a nice Ride[smile]...

Q: On the old school show, do you have any artistic control? Like,

do you spin the records as well as host the show?

A: Our mixer, DJ Stacy Blackman,  has great taste in Old School music... I wrap

up the hour with my choices...

Q: What would you like to see happen musically in Nashville's future?

A: We need to open up the support thing to help each other... If you hear it on the

radio buy it.. Without you guys telling the people in New York Or, LA what's

popping in our town they just won't know!!!! Support by requesting and buying

the product....Let' s bring the music business here... This is the Music City!!!!!!

  Right on.........

Q: Any shot outs?

A: Shout outs to the 92Q Crew.... Shout outs to the Strike One fam......Last but not

least, Shout outs to you guys for asking me to be a part of this wonderful

        thing.... "Everything Underground"

                                                                                                 Thank you,

                                                                                                            Yolanda

Ah-ite. There you have it. The very charismatic Queen of Old School,

droppin' a little knowledge on us about what it's like to be in her world. Listen out

for Ms. Neely as she rocks the house daily, with the best in 70's, 80's and 90's

funk and R&B. Weekday mornings from 9 ta' 2 on 92Q, baby.

This has been another Goodphella presentation.

                                                                                                                         Peace
